Gribeyedov outside Chisty Prudy Metro Station (on Chistoprudny Bulvar)
for an after-dark stroll whose theme is "light", passing the museum
of lights (about 50 R if it's open), the power station and seven
candlelit churches. Ends at the Christmas market on Ploschad Revolutsii
around 8pm, allowing plenty of time for exploring on the way... 5km,
medium-slow.
Monday 10th January - Moscow's Top ten tram rides, part 1 -
Meet near the Starbucks, just inside the Shuka shopping centre
at Shukinskaya metro, at 10am to explore the village of Troitse
Lykovo and the river by foot and tram (about

After that, for those that wish, the exploration by tram
continues to Voikovskaya (lunch in Grabli
around 1pm) and then Dmitrovskaya, Novoslobodskaya and finally
to Lefortovo for an after-dark trip,(probably) finishing
at Kurskaya around 6pm, but with opportunities to get
away earlier if you need to.

10am in or near Macdonalds in the Alexandrovsky Gardens
(close to Red Square) to follow in the footsteps of
the Empress Elizabeth. Starting with an exploration of
the old University (which she founded), we will cross the
river and visit the Elizabeth exhibition in the Tretyakov (360 roubles).
If there is still time after lunch, we will catch the
tram up to Pokrovka to explore a few more mansions and churches
with Elizabethan associations, finishing at Kurskaya again by 2.30pm
You can leave at 1pm at Novokuznetskaya if you prefer.
total walking about 4km, medium-slow)
Thursday 13th January – An all day out-of-town trip to the old
town of Zaraisk. Meet at 10am in the “Subway” sandwich cafe-kiosk
outside Vykhino metro station (south end of the purple line – about
half an hour from town centre). We will catch the next bus to Zaraisk,
2 hours or more outside Moscow, explore the town and return by 8pm.
Warning: This is an exploratory trip so I don’t know when the
buses leave or exactly where we’re going, but it should be fun anyway.
